Not a Trolley Problem: devlog #1 — from jam to Steam
Not a Trolley Problem! started as a prototype for Gamedev.js Jam 2026 ↗. The theme was “Machines” — and a runaway trolley is a very honest machine: you drag people onto the tracks, pull the lever, and the coins roll in. Thirteen days, PixiJS, runs right in the browser.
The jam version is still playable on itch.io ↗: branching upgrades (auto-grabbers, faster trolleys, stickier fingers), five locations with boss fights, and ten absurd trolley dilemmas at rank-ups — about thirty minutes of dark fun. It finished the jam with 4.1/5 from 42 ratings, and the feedback made the decision for me:
I’m making the full version. The game is coming to Steam as a proper release — bigger, rebalanced, and just as ethically questionable. If you want to help it launch, wishlisting on Steam ↗ is one click and the biggest thing you can do.
